Personal Experience

I have always had dogs in my life. Our family dog was my best friend and I would sleep in her dog house with her. I helped train our family dogs growing up and have always been interested in it ever since. When I started agility with Koda, I didn’t even envision it would lead to a job, but it completely makes sense. My passion for dogs, responsible pet ownership, and dog advocacy is right in line with my training. I’ve trained our two dogs since they were puppies and have taken my knowledge and then applied all the expertise from Katie and Sarah on top of that.

Why I Love My Job

I love seeing breakthroughs and successes. For me, it is all about that connection with our fur babies – keep the fun and love your top priority! They are trying! It’s so exciting seeing something click, especially when it’s something the dog/owner learns that they have been struggling with. Getting to see the time, effort and celebration is fantastic!

I came into the agility world later in life. I was rehabbing from an accident so it is never too late to join sports. I am currently training my 5th puppy (3rd Border Collie). My first dog was a yellow lab. I enjoy traveling and competing in AKC and UKI Agility Trials.

    Why I Love My Job

I enjoy my personal growth and taking the time to help others grow with their training. This sport allows for all levels of enjoyment from non-competitors to world team athletes.

I have been a dog owner most of my life. I started volunteering at Rescue Gang in 2021 and while I was there, I received a lot of knowledge about dogs, rescues, and training. I took over being Kennel Manager in 2022 until I started to work for a local vet/boarding/day care business. In my spare time, I walk dogs almost every day of the week where I apply my knowledge of training.

      Why I Love My Job

This job is so rewarding! I get to spend my time with the TAILS Academy dogs and I get to know them very well. The clients are all amazing (and their dogs too). There is a strong sense of teamwork here and I learn something new every day. Getting to see the dogs progress in the water treadmill is so amazing!

Growing up, I always wanted a dog and love animals. In 2021, I started volunteering at HAWS and fell in love with that world. In 2022, I got my first dog name Sumomo, a senior Shiba Inu. I met her while volunteering and felt an immediate connection. In college, I went to UW-Stout for Graphic and Multimedia design. While there, I worked for the school’s website and photo studio. After graduation, I found myself in product design and development and did a variety of tasks. After being there for 10 years, I left that world to try a new challenge and join the “new” animal world that I have been passionate about. It has been fun learning all about dog training and canine sports.

          Why I Love My Job

I love the variety of projects I get to work on. Designing new graphics for the website and emails is probably one of my favorite tasks. It is really fun to come up with new marketing events that both make clients smiles and also give back to the community. I also enjoy photographing and filming dogs because I love seeing how happy they are while at Think Pawsitive, and I usually get a bunch of kisses as a bonus.

I have worked in many different environments before coming over to Think Pawsitive. I first started out my customer service experience at the Milwaukee County Zoo in food service, where I worked there for close to 8 years, on the food line, supervising different kiosks, and then my last roll was at the Catering Coordinator. From there I went into the baking industry and was able to work more one on one with clients to make sure their bakery needs were met with their cakes, cupcakes, and pasteries. Having that one on one experience with those clients really helped me make sure we met the needs of each and every customer. I also had two opportunities to work in Walt Disney World and do the Disney College Program. While being there I got to help customers from all over the world and be able to be understand their needs even with a language barrier.

          Why I Love My Job

I love working at Think Pawsitive because I get to work with all the dogs as well as their owners. Whether it is in a one on one session in the pool or water treadmill, or coming in to their TAILS Academy Session. Its such a privilege to work with the dogs one on one and watch their growth here at the facility. I absolutley love watching a dog grow especially in the pool when they start out, all the way to graduating to be a PRO swimmer. TAILS Academy is also so rewarding to me because the owners chose us to let their dogs spend the day with, and then having those dog grow an attachment to myself or any of our staff members. Plus I get to work with really great people, its so fun getting to know my staff members, and getting to do staff activities together with either just them, or them and their dogs!

          Early Years

Katie has had a great fondness for dogs since she was a young child. Her training career began with her involvement in the 4H canine training program where she and her dog, Rusty, excelled. This left Katie with an increased confidence and a hunger for greater challenges. Over the years she has sought out and studied under the tutelage of some of the world’s finest instructors. She continues to seek advances in her training and applies her new knowledge and skill to her ever-evolving and expanding curriculum at Think Pawsitive.

Long before becoming the owner of Think Pawsitive, Katie graduated from the Wisconsin School of Professional Pet Grooming. Her natural talent was quickly evidenced by a growing client list. Thus, with her husband Todd, she opened and operated a successful grooming, dog daycare, and retail business for ten years. Her insatiable love of working with dogs led her to pursue expansion into canine training and agility competition. She has never looked back.

Katie regularly competes in AKC, CPE, UKI, and USDAA agility with her own dogs and several of her students’ dogs. She has earned multiple Excellent/Masters titles, Championship titles, and Regional and National placements.

          Why I Love My Job

Katie is also extremely proud of the variety of outreach programs and charitable contributions that Think Pawsitive supports throughout the year. Canine Connections, a school-year youth program, engages young people in learning about dog training, sports, and the human-canine bond. Think Pawsitive staff and students host numerous outreach and education booths at a variety of diverse dog and non-dog-related events in the greater Milwaukee area. These unique opportunities reach tens of thousands of visitors and support various non-profits and civic groups. It is extremely important to Katie to support our community and to give our time and talents to non-profit groups. Think Pawsitive donates to numerous civic and charitable causes throughout the year. We are very honored to give back.

Think Pawsitive has earned a strong and well-known reputation as a premier dog training facility that attracts hundreds of happy visitors each week. Katie is very proud of Think Pawsitive, as it is an exceptional place that allows the development of safe, healthy, and rewarding relationships between dogs and their owners and providing uniquely enriching activities for every dog and owner who visits us.”
